All of our garments are handcrafted and designed by Lori Anderson in the Sweet Violet studio in Jupiter, Florida. Lori's creative journey began at a young age, creating and sewing her own garments while in high school and then after graduation she continued with courses in fashion design, focusing on leather handcrafted items at George Brown College. She then began a 2 year apprenticeship in the studio of Tamara Southam in Toronto, Canada, creating totally leather women's garments. From 1984-1986 Lori and her bestie Annie B. started GAGA Clothing Co (yes, before Lady G was even possibly born!) and sold many of their leather bustiers to the popular Toronto Queen Street shops. After moving to Florida in the late 80's, Lori's love of all things fashion continued with a forray into wedding attire created from lace curtains and vintage slips to designing prints for yoga wear and eventually brought her back to the love of leather (this time it is VEGAN!) and organic fabrics, namely linen for our tropical weather.
The perfect attire for leisure & relaxation, Sweet Violet combines effortless dressing & natural fibres to create the ultimate warm weather wardrobe. Sweet Violet's main focus is on "slow fashion"; functional & mindful clothing pieces designed with quality. Lori strives to maintain & preserve the artisan spirit by offering thoughtful, well- made clothing pieces that can be worn for years as well as garments that are liberating for the female body & comfortable for our warm Florida weather. Our pieces are made to be timeless, as opposed to the "mass produced products" produced overseas that appeal to the current fashion trend of the week and are in turn dumped in a landfill once the owner has tired of them. Our linen and leather pieces are a combination of function, form and fit; that harmonious balance between practicality and art.
